Several Items on Agenda

Business Awards - Hopefully you all were able to see the finalists for this year's business awards scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. If you missed it, you can read the information here. As we've mentioned before, we feel one of the primary responsibilities of the Chamber is to celebrate our Manhattan businesses. This is a great opportunity for you to be part of that celebration. I hope you can find time to attend and let your fellow members know much you appreciate their successes.

Ground Breaking - The Museum of Art and Light will hold its groundbreaking at 10 a.m. this Friday. The event will be at the future home of the museum, the corner of Third Street and Pierre Street in downtown Manhattan. We are thrilled to get to be part of this celebration, which highlights the beginning of construction for the new attraction scheduled to open in Fall 2024. In addition to having works of art from people such as Rembrandt, Picasso, Matisse and Dali, among others, the new $45 million facility will have a state-of-the-art digital exhibit, similar to the Van Gogh exhibit currently selling out venues around the world. The facility is being made possible through the generosity of Manhattan entrepreneurs Bob and Tracey DeBruyn from the Master Teacher and the State of Kansas/City of Manhattan STAR bond allocation.

Football is Back - Fall is obviously a great time of the year for so many reasons in a university community. But it was great to get back to Bill Snyder Family Stadium Saturday for a rout of South Dakota. This week will be a great match-up with Missouri. Expect to see some yellow and black here this weekend as our former Big 12 foe returns to town. Also, congrats to the Manhattan high school team for an exciting upset of No. 1 Derby on Friday night. The Indians open at home Friday night against Topeka at Bishop Stadium.
