DEI Initiatives Move Forward

Monday email 20

Chair Summer Ott Dierks has prioritized these efforts and a task force led by Lisa Sisley has been working on ways to incorporate DEI into our program of work.As part of that progress, we are pleased to be partnering on two events scheduled to take place this fall. The first is an event from the Black Entrepreneurs of the Flint Hills on Oct. 25. "Black and Bankable" is an intensive one-day event featuring Makisha Boothe, founder and head business coach at Sistahbiz Global Network. The event is an opportunity for black entrepreneurs to access capital and provides culturally-competent training to address the specific challenges and needs of black founders. Network Kansas has also agreed to help fund the project.Click here if you would like more information. For sponsorship opportunities, contact Daryn Soldan or me at the Chamber. While the previous event is focused on entrepreneurs, another event is focused on overall business benefits of incorporating DEI as a practice. McCownGordon Construction will present a speaker and panel who will discuss these topics on Nov. 4, at the Bluemont Hotel. Christina Long, president and CEO of Create Campaign, Inc. will be speaking along with panelists Willy Pegues, IV from McCownGordon, Kent Glasscock from K-State Innovation Partners and Dr. Olivia Law-DelRosso, K-State's assistant dean for DEIB at the College of Business. Mike Matson, our director for external affairs, will moderate. For more information, go to the chamber's website. We are very excited to see these programs and are optimistic of our organization's progress.
